R-Mark Certification: What it is and Why it Matters

R-Mark Certification was created by the RMI, Rack Manufacturers Institute, to provide baseline specifications for pallet rack.  R-Mark certified pallet rack must be in compliance with a specific set of specifications per RMI’s ANSI MH16.1-2012: Specification for the Design, Testing and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks.

How to Obtain a R-Mark Certification:

Earning an R-Mark Certification means meeting a number of different requirements. First, the product must pass meticulous testing completed by two independent engineers. Both engineers must have ample experience and be registered in the United States. Testing is performed and capacities are calculated based on ANSI MH16.1-2012.  Only products that, ensuring the specs meet the requirements for an R-Mark Certification. If the product passes the engineering analysis, the manufacturer is awarded an R-Mark certification which they can display on the product. 

 Do I Need an R-Mark Certification?

That depends on the job at hand. All jobs require their own set of unique requirements, when it comes to industrial racking, it is definitely not a one size fits all affair. With that being said, if you run a warehouse, purchasing pallet rack that is R-Mark Certified provides additional piece of mind that the rack meets industry standards.
